It all depends on what's under the metal.  If you have plywood sheathing then the noise will be minimal.  If you have strapping then you'll hear it more but it's not excessive.

We only use shingles manufactured by CertainTeed.  All of our shingles come with a 50 year non-prorated manufacturer's warranty for stand alone homes (25 for other structures).
